The air around Ed seemed to shimmer, where he stood chest-deep in water. Must be the stifling hot air. "What," he grunted, unbothered.
"When I told the crew the island springs would be for the exclusive use of the captain first, they misunderstood. Because," he laughed nervously, wondering why he was nervous, "we're both the captain!"
Ed narrowed his eyes.
"It's all right, you go first. I can come back later."
"You bathe alone?"
"Don't... you?"
"Posh thing, is it?"
It was, of course. And Ed liked posh things. Stede swallowed. "No."
